Our Level 3 Animal Management Diploma offers you the choice of university study or employment on successful completion of your course. There are one and two year options available with the Level 3 pathway and we will work with you to decide which is best for you.

Caring for animals can be an extremely fulfilling and rewarding career. From working in kennels and catteries to pet shops, rescue centres or sanctuaries, there is a wide range of careers available on successful completion of your course. With access to animal collections on campus you will gain the practical training you need to pursue a career in this exciting industry.

Our state of the art animal management centres at Duchy College provide dedicated access to a huge range of animal species such as exotics, birds and farm animals at Duchy Rosewarne, small mammals, exotics, farm livestock and horses at Duchy Stoke Climsland and zoo animal experience at Dartmoor Zoological Park. Our Newquay campus has classrooms at Newquay Zoo, Blue Reef Aquarium and Tolcarne beach, designed to immerse you in the animal world and ensure you learn all you can from the expert members of staff who work there. Newquay students will have access to the animal centres at Duchy College.

You’ll need:

Five GCSEs at grade 4, including English, maths and science.

You’ll learn:

All about animal health, feeding and nutrition, animal behaviour and communication, biology, wildlife conservation, welfare and breeding. All our staff are highly qualified and have worked in the industry.

Expect:

Practical lessons delivered at our animal units and a weekly work experience placement as well as block weeks to gain key employability skills.

PROFILE

Faye Archell Programme Manager - Animal Management

Faye spent some time working as an aquarist at Southend Sea Life Centre after gaining a degree in Wildlife Management before starting teaching in 2002. She has worked with cetaceans and marine turtles at a rehabilitation centre in Florida and Rhesus and Bonnet Macaques rescued from the pet trade in Goa. Faye is also a wildlife officer with the charity ORCA and regularly carries out marine mammal surveys on ferry and cruise line routes.
