This programme comprises the related enterprises which identify farm estates. This degree will provide a challenging and exciting career for anyone interested in the broad range of enterprises associated with farming and the countryside. It encompasses agriculture, countryside management, forestry, game and fisheries management as key enterprises. Knowledge of these aspects of the rural sector is enhanced by industry visits and work placement.
This course will provide a pathway to a challenging and exciting career for anyone interested in the broad range of enterprises associated with the agriculture and the countryside. It requires those with entrepreneurial and innovative skills to overcome the associated issues of food security, environmental management and climate change. They comprise of a combination of classroom theory sessions and practical sessions in the field; giving you experience of estate management and farm enterprises.
The programme covers whole farm reviews, building design and conversion, landlord tenant issues, planning and development, integrated estate planning, the use of renewables and access to the countryside. It includes completing 160 hours of work placement over two years.
Within the course there will farm, shoot and fishery visits, looking at their different enterprises and how diversification has added value to a business such as accommodation, farm shop, wedding venues etc. There will be a study tour to an estate where you will gain knowledge of the farm, sporting, managing the housing portfolio and general responsibilities of an estate manager. Other trips will be organised to understand the role of careers with organisations such as the Wildlife Trust and Local Authorities.
Possible careers / progression:
A top-up degree in BSc (Hons) Rural Business Management at Duchy College, Stoke or possible careers in Game Shoots Manager, Estate Manager, Senior Warden with Wildlife Trusts, Estates Events Manager, Farm Advisor Officer, Ranger or positions with Environment Agency, Local Authorities or The National Trust.

48 UCAS points from AS and A-Levels (at least 32 points must be at A2-level) or relevant level 3 qualification, ie BTEC National Diploma / BTEC Extended Diploma - PPP Grades required. Access to HE Diplomas - 45 credits at level 3. Plus GCSEs at grade C/grade 4 or above in English Language and Mathematics: alternatives at Level 2 may be considered. Mature applicants with relevant experience but without the stated qualifications will be considered individually and are encouraged to apply.
