Primary school teacher in a classroom of children This qualification provides learners with an understanding of the knowledge needed when working directly with children and young people in a school or college environment. The qualification covers elements including children and young people’s development, safeguarding their welfare and communication and professional relationships.

What you will learn

Through a range of interesting topics including child development, health and safety, safeguarding, personal development, communication, equality and diversity and schools as organisations.

You will need to complete 11 mandatory units.

Entry requirements

To have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills at the level required to support pupils' learning. Relevant skills and attributes include:

Experience of working in a school
Interest and commitment to working with children and/or young people
Ability to relate well to children, young people and adults
Willing to reflect on your own practice, learn and apply that learning to the workplace

Progression

Progress onto higher qualifications such as our Level 4 Advanced Practitioner in Schools and Colleges or into the workforce.
