I was visiting the Beale Park Thames Boat Show and found out about the course from the Falmouth Marine School stand. I've been a sailing instructor since I finished school at 16 and was keen to do more study. The course combines composite technology and design and we also get to build things such as a 16ft sea kayak and surfboards. We are learning to use 3D-deisgn software which is used to test the boats before they are built. The course has been really interesting, hard work but good fun. We have lots of time in the workshop and as it is a small college we all get lots of individual time with the tutor. If I had gone to a bigger university I wouldn't be getting this personalised tuition. I am going to University of Plymouth in September to study my third year and gain a BSc in Marine Sport Technology. I'd like to work for a yacht design company either here or in New Zealand. The yacht scene is growing in New Zealand and they are becoming renowned for their design industry so they are always looking for qualified staff.
