CSI:UK Comes to Duchy College

Students studying a foundation degree in Police Studies at Duchy College, Stoke Climsland had to investigate a real-life crime scene using professional CSI techniques.

The event was planned by CSI:UK Events Company who reconstruct crime scenes based on real life events. The CSI: UK team comprise of two former Scotland Yard Detectives with over 30 years of experience with the Anti-Terrorist Branch and Homicide Command.

Senior investigators briefed the students at Duchy College Home Farm, where the crime scenes were constructed. The students split into two teams, covering two crime scenes communicating their findings to reach a conclusion. The students pulled together theory, which they have learnt in the classroom into a real situation by recovering vital evidence and recording their findings, taking fingerprints, foot casts, and problem solving to reach a conclusion. As the day progressed students were given more information, and then had to plan and implement their ongoing evidential recovery taking into account the new information. Police Studies student, Elizabeth Burnard said: "This was the best thing we have done on the course to date."

Brian Hook from CSI:UK Events, commented: "Students were faced with situations where leadership, the analysis of information, focus and the pressure of a major investigation  applied in order to test them as an individual and in a team situation, integrating their existing attitudes and their newly acquired skills. The students worked hard all day to recover the evidence and were extremely committed to their task."
