How is the course studied at this venue? -  
This course is being offered over three days on the Dartington Estate where you will put into practice the theory you learn in three distinct areas. Carrying out practical work in the Forest garden at Schumacher College, on the organic market garden at Foxhole and also in the extensive grounds of Dartington Hall.
The course has a sustainable approach in all aspects of production and amenity horticulture.

Additional Information -  
All students will be expected to wear steel toe capped boots/shoes when carrying out practical work, and have wet weather clothes for when the weather is unfavourable. You would be expected to have a good pair of secateurs and a small notebook.
 
There is the opportunity at the end of the course to carry out work experience in the Tresco Abbey Gardens on the Isles of Scilly and this will cost in the region of £180 per person.

How is the course studied at this venue? -  
This course is offered over 3 days a week and provides an opportunity to gain a range of skills with underlying theory in many aspects of Horticulture using the extensive Horticultural facilities at Rosewarne.Camborne.
The course will cover subjects such as Estate maintenace, Soil Science, Establishment and maintenance of plants, Tractor driving, Work experience, Plant nomenclature, Propagaion techniques, and Landscape skills.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements would include a level 1 qualification in horticulture or 3 D grades at GCSE

What will I be doing on the course?

The course is delivered by knowledgeable, enthusiastic staff, through a range of practical activities and theory sessions.

It consists of 8 units including plant and soil science, plant establishment and management, construction of landscape surfaces, machinery operations and plant propagation.

Assessment is by practical activities, written assignments and identification tests.

Additional Information

Steel toe cap safety boots, a good pair of gloves and a water proof coat are essential equipment.

If you are over 19 you will be expected to pay a course fee, however, you may be eligible for FREE tuition if you are in receipt of certain benefits or it is the first qualification you are undertaking.
