WHAT QUALIFICATIONS CAN I STUDY?

With lots of different qualifications to choose from, it can sometimes be quite confusing to decide what to study. The lists below shows the range of university qualifications available with Duchy College.

Undergraduate:

Honours degree (top-up): Once you have completed a two year foundation degree at Duchy College, you can continue studying for another year to top-up your qualification to a full honours degree. For a full list of top-up degree courses, click here

Foundation degree: These qualifications combine academic study with workplace learning, and have been designed jointly between universities, colleges and employers. The qualification is roughly equivalent to the first two years of a bachelors degree and can lead straight to a job or further study.

Duchy College offers foundation degrees in a wide range of subjects, from agriculture to equine studies, and police studies to vet nursing. For a full list, click here. (All courses with FdSc in the title are foundation degrees).

Diploma/certificate of higher education: If you are looking for a more flexible way to study, these qualifications provide an ideal alternative to a full bachelors or foundation degree.

They are made up of pieces from existing degrees, so can be tailored to your needs and experience, and you will get either a certificate or diploma in personal and professional development. They are flexible if you are in employment or have other commitments, as they take any length of time to complete, from two years for a certificate or four years for a diploma.

Higher national certificate/diploma: If you want to gain a qualification which leads to a specific job, an HNC or HND may be for you. These work related qualifications are designed to give you the skills to put that knowledge to effective use in a particular job.

HNCs take one year to complete full-time and two years part-time/ HNDs taken two years to complete full-time and can also be taken part-time (which takes longer). For a full list, use the search box (right) and type either ‘'HNC' or ‘'HND' in the keyword box.

Individual modules: Rather than committing to a full bachelors or foundation degree, you may want to study for a shorter course. These individual modules, taken from existing degrees and foundation degrees, provide an opportunity to improve your skills and qualifications, without enrolling on the full degree. Courses can last anything between 2 weeks for intensive courses and 20 weeks.
