Duchy College is now offering a range of Forest School experiences ranging from personal and professional development workshops to accredited training.

Overview of Learning

Entry level
An introduction to Forest Schools.  For people with additional learning needs or disabilities.  Covering practical work in outdoor areas and personal development skills.

Forest School Level 1
The course provides a broad introduction to Forest School and outdoor skills and will be a mixture of theory and practical skills and you will need to complete course work after training is provided. You must have an interest in working with children or young people in the outdoor environment.

Duration: One day per week for 4 weeks

Forest School Level 2
On successful completion you will be a qualified forest school assistant and work alongside a forest school practitioner. The course consists of theory and practical elements and coursework must be completed after training. The course is suitable for those who have previous experience of working with children or young people.

Duration: One day per week for 6 weeks

Forest School Level 3
The course consists of theory and practical elements and coursework must be completed after training. Additional support is provided to enable practitioners to gain the relevant skills, knowledge and confidence to run their own forest schools. The training is suitable for teachers, play workers, early year's professionals, early year's workers (level 3) and teaching assistants (level 3).  You must hold a first aid qualification before you are certificated for this award; this can be arranged through Duchy College.

Duration: One day per week for 8 weeks plus tutorials by arrangement with course tutor.

Certificate in Higher Education Continuous Professional Development in Forest School and the Outdoor Environment (60 credits)

This CPD certificate is designed to meet the needs of practitioners who have the vision and insight needed to take learning outside the classroom. It enables students to explore the theories of risk and challenge in the outdoors, the value of applying the Forest School ethos to a wide range of learning situations and the importance and methods for facilitating ‘enabling environments' outdoors.

Risk Versus Challenge Level 4 (20 credits)

Outdoor Experiential Learning Level 5 (20 credits)
