Work History
2000 to Present: Currently a course manager for Business, Computing, Hospitatlity and Travel & Tourism - the later 2 areas being new to the campus in Sept 11. I started as an IT tutor and managed the Saltash Learning Centre in Fore Street for 4/5 years whilst I undertook my degree in Education and Training. The area covers all types of qualifications including BTECs, Diplomas, NVQs, Apprenticeships and Access and therefore deal with a number of awarding bodies as well as 4 CCLs! Busy role with approximately 120 learners this year and 8 staff for the area (half are part-time). My main agenda is employability and progression, sometimes a learner isn't achieving simply because they aren't on the right course - it's up to us to get that right!
Research Details
Having just completed a module on Writing as a Professional Development one of the areas we were exposed to was autoethnography - people watching! As observations are a hugh part of our professional lives I have decided that this would be perfect for me to research and develop. Looking at Stephen Ball who asks if we are so bogged down in the audit culture are we missing the point of what work can developmental observations do by comparision. Qualitative versus quantitative tools can and will be used to help reach a discussion point as I don't believe this debate will end any time soon especially with the changes looming.
The second module I have just started is Management in a time of Educational Change. Watch this space for updates....
