HOTEL & CATERING STUDIES
In recent years, catering has been elevated to an art form gaining ever-growing popularity, propelled by a vast range of TV programmes and celebrity chefs such as Rick stein, Gary Rhodes and Jamie Oliver.
Demand for well qualified, experienced students has also never been higher. Conservative estimates put the national figure for vacancies within catering at around 50,000 jobs waiting to be filled. Salaries have also risen considerably in recent years, a good head chef can now earn anything from £15,000 up to £115,000 per year.
The department provides a full range of programmes, both full and part-time, backed up by real life training and opportunities. From initial welcoming skills in reception, to preparing food in the kitchen, to specialist areas of expertise and onto management, the department covers the whole spectrum of the catering and hospitality world.
We have nine training kitchens, a main restaurant (which is currently being extensively refurbished), the Trevenson fine dining restaurant, a bar and reception area which provide real-life training opportunities for you, whilst excellent links with industry, both locally and abroad, provide wonderful opportunities for work experience.
In June 2012, Cornwall College launched Academy Nathan Outlaw at the Camborne campus, working closely with two Michelin-starred chef Nathan to equip students with the skills and experience they need to become outstanding professionals in their field. Combining practical and theoretical workshops with industrial visits, work experience in high profile establishments and master classes with leading chefs and experts. Students will also have the chance to work in Nathan's restaurants or kitchens at the prestigious St Enodoc Hotel in Rock.
