As trainers for the Children's Workforce we are always striving to develop and improve the range of courses we offer.  With the increased  focus on the value of play to children and young people we have now developed our provision to include Play work.

Duchy College offers qualifications in Playwork with can lead to careers such as Hospital Playworker, Children's Holiday Club Playworker, After-school club Leader or Street Play Leader or Assistant.

We are currently offering introductory workshops which Early Years practitioners may use as CPD.  These will provide learners with an insight into how using Playwork Principles may support children in developing a greater independence in their play, helping to support freely chosen self-directed play.

For existing Early Years practitioners with a Level 3 in Children's Care Learning & Development or Children's Care & Education we have available funding to support the Level 3 Award in Transition from Early Years to Playwork.

An exciting opportunity provided by SkillsActive Government funding, which will enable staff with Early Years qualifications to gain the skills, knowledge and principles of Playwork needed to facilitate the play opportunities appropriate to extended hours, using spaces and resources for children and young people to come together and play in their free time such as might be expected at Out of School Clubs. This Level 3 Playwork Transition Award will meet needs both in terms of CPD and Ofsted requirements.

Employers can now take advantage of funding to help staff to gain the Level 3 Award in Transition to Playwork (from Early Years), enabling providers  to meet Ofsted requirements for at least one staff member in a play  setting to hold a relevant Level 3 Playwork qualification without having to employ additional staff.

SkillActive will provide 50% of the funding and employers will need to pledge 50% of the cost of the qualification i.e. only £229 and the Government will match this with the same - the employee pays nothing.

Courses will be offered in East, West and Mid Cornwall starting from May 2012 and will be delivered on a part time basis totalling 60 guided learning hours (comprises class contact/Moodle virtual learning area/Assessor support).  As funding is limited to 60 participants throughout Cornwall and Devon please consider booking your places as soon as possible.
