Students fundraise with a Disney Twist
First and Second year students studying Children?s Care, Learning & Development at Duchy College dressed as Disney Characters and raised nearly £300 for Children In Need.
Over 30 childcare students dressed up from Disney scenes from "Pirates of the Carribean", "Shrek", "Mary Poppins" and "Minnie & Mickey Mouse". The group took their buckets and collected money around Duchy College, Stoke Climsland campus, and then onto the local towns Launceston and Callington. They were fortunate to have assistance from their lecturers the Snow Queen (Jane Hernandez) and Cruella De Vil (Kath Norris).
Charleen Stringer a studying at Duchy College said; "It's brilliant that we have raised so much money for Children in Need, everyone has put so much effort into their outfits, its great. We were all very excited when coming into college today to see what we all would look like. Most people looked shocked as I painted my hands, feet and face with green face paint to look like Princess Fiona out of "Shrek" the movie."
Kath Norris, course manager for the National Diploma in Children's care, Learning and Development said; "On the day, everyone was ready to go. The students made their own buckets for collecting and went around college trying to target the other students and members of staff. It was superb and a credit to the students for organising their outfits and arranging to go into Callington and Launceston after college, to collect money and old mobile phones."
John Latham, Cornwall College Principal said; "Children in Need is such an important charity event in the UK, it's fantastic that the students and staff have organised this collection and it was so successful, both the staff and students are to be congratulated. "
