French Students get a Feel for Cornish Horticulture
DUCHY College Rosewarne welcomed some students from France this week as they popped in to the College for a whistle-stop tour of the horticulture and agriculture facilities as part of their studies.
The group who are from Kerliver Training Centre in Finistere, Brittany, are enjoying a week-long fieldtrip in Cornwall as part of their curriculum in landscape and garden planning. As well as exploring the local gardens the group wanted the opportunity to visit a land-based college and find out more about English education and training in the sector.
Bill Herring, Curriculum Area Manager for Horticulture at Duchy College, explained “We were only too happy to host the group for the morning. They enjoyed a tour of the site and Rosewarne Nursery, as well as short talks on our university courses and micropropagation work. Despite the obvious language barrier they asked lots of questions and were very impressed with our facilities, we hope they enjoy the rest of their visit to Cornwall.”
Nick Pascoe, Estates Manager at the College highlighted the agricultural side of things and gave the students a tour of the cattle shed and farm.
Andrew Counsell, Head of Duchy College, said: “We take great pride in welcoming students from other countries; many of our members of staff are experts in their field and enjoy sharing their knowledge and experience.”
