BLOSSOMING florists from Duchy College Rosewarne showcased their talents recently as they prepared stunning flower arrangements for display at Mount Edgecumbe House in Torpoint.

The Floristry Diploma Level 2 and Level 3 students were invited to decorate the house in preparation for the annual Christmas Fayre which took place at the weekend.

Monica Beaumont, Floristry Course Manager, explained: “This was our fourth year at Mount Edgecumbe and it is always an exciting day out for the students as it gives them lots of real life experience in a wonderful setting.

“The group encompassed the tradition of the manor house setting in their arrangements but with more modern colourings and flowers, using lots of purples, silvers, golds and oranges, which toned very well with the décor of the rooms. They worked extremely hard and made in total about fifty arrangements. It is always an honour to be invited to do this and already our invite has been extended to next year.”

Student Rachael McDermott, from Ponsanooth said: “It was great to do something different and see everyone else’s work as well. I’m new to floristry, I started this year to retrain and change career, I’m really enjoying being creative, working with pretty things and being hands-on.”

Anke Burley from St Austell said: “It was really enjoyable, fun and a great experience at the same time, especially all the lovely flowers we were able to use.”

Natasha Archer, from Bodmin added: “It was a really good opportunity, I enjoyed being creative and working with my own ideas.”

The students decorated window sills, fireplaces, mantels and staircases being extremely careful when setting their arrangements due to the priceless furniture and paintings in the rooms. The group used an array of flowers including Cymbidium Orchids and purple Vanda Orchids, Roses, Gerbera and lots of other Christmas flowers.

Andrew Counsell, Head of Duchy College, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to showcase their skills and represent the College. Students learn so much from going out and experiencing real working situations first-hand.”
