About the course

This course is delivered over one academic year. It will provide learners with a working knowledge of a variety of Uniformed Public Services. and will be beneficial for learners who eventually wish to enter and pursue a career in:

  • The Police Service
  • The Fire & Rescue Service
  • The Ambulance Service
  • The Armed Forces
  • Prison and Private Security Services
  • HM Customs and Revenue

Entry requirements

Normal entry requirements are 4 GCSE's at grade D or above including English. Students who do not achieve a grade D in English or Maths will be required to undertake a Functional Skill in those subjects alongside their main Diploma.

What will I do on the course?

You will study the following mandatory units : 
- Public Service Skills
- Career Planning for the Public Services
- Improving Health and Fitness for Entry to the Uniformed Public Services

In addition you will study one of the following specialist units :
- Employment in the Uniformed Public Services 
- Employment in the Non Uniformerd Services

And a further three units decided by your centre. A sample of the optional units is given below :
 
- Career Planning for the Public Services
- Adventurous Activities and Teamwork for the Public Services
- Sport and Recreation in the Public Services
- Land Navigation by Map and Compass
- Crime and its Effects on Society
- Attending Emergency Incidents in Public Services
- Citizenship, the Individual and Society

What can I do after the course?

On completion of this course you can progress onto the Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Subsidary Diploma, Diploma or Extended Diploma in Public Services qualifications. Alternatively, you could apply for one of three levels of courses in the Duchy College Military Academy which prepares young people for selection and entry to the Armed Services.
