Students at Cornwall College St Austell dazzled guests at the Hairdressing Awards Evening last night, as they presented seven spectacular themed productions in the fantastic surroundings of The Keay Theatre.

Hairdressing students used their skill, knowledge and experience to present their artistic ability, by working on models to present dazzling looks for the evening. Performing Arts students brought their creations to life, helping to create an unforgettable evening of dance, music and fabulous hair.

The pre-awards productions were based on seven themes; Hairdressing NVQ 1 students presented an Ambition production, first year VRQ Level 2 Hairdressing Diploma: Attitude, Level 2 full-time students, group 1: Fantasy, Level 2 full-time students, group 2: Arrogance, Level 2 evening students: Betrayal, NVQ 3 students, group 1: Vulnerability, NVQ 3 and Diploma Level 3 students, group 2: Courage.

The productions provided an exciting build-up to the awards presentations. Twenty awards were presented to students to acknowledge their hard work and dedication.

Vikki Rostock, 17, from St Austell, was delighted to win the NVQ Level 1 Achievement Award. She said: "I didn't expect to win an award! As well as my NVQ 1 at the College I've been getting work experience at KLF in St Austell. I can't wait to complete my next two years at college. This is the 3rd award I've won since I've been at College; I really enjoyed being involved in the Hairdressing Competition last year - it's really helping me develop my skills."

John Latham, principal of Cornwall College said: "Our students have really excelled their selves this evening. Their hard work and preparation for the Hairdressing Awards 2008 is invaluable experience for them as they have worked in teams - an essential skill in the hairdressing industry. Not only have they gained teamwork skills, their creative skills have been tested outside of their normal study."
