Marine Students Celebrate at End of Year Ball
Degree students from Falmouth Marine School have celebrated the end of their course in style.
Students who had completed foundation degrees in marine science and marine sports science arrived at the Greenlawns hotel dressed to impress in their ball gowns and dinner suits.
The evening began with a three course meal followed by a presentation of comedy awards from the event organiser and Learning Centre Manager Colin Smith, in which he awarded students with comedy titles depending on their behaviour over the last two years. These awards included the Mary Poppins award, the Bart Simpson award and the Waldorf and Statler award. Once Colin had finished, students Jessica Hirons and Daisy Parsons grabbed the microphone and gave their own speech, thanking Colin for all his support over the past two years. The dance floor and DJ were then revealed and everyone danced the rest of the night away.
Colin said: “This is the first year that we have run a formal ball to celebrate the end of the academic year and departure of the fantastic students we get at the Marine School. Being a small college and based in the learning centre I get to know the students really well so I was pleased to able to organise this event and be part of their celebrations.”
The second year degree students spent the day at the Princess Pavilion presenting their final year projects to industry and first year students on the day of the ball.
Marine Science degree student Steve Downing said: “What a great way to end the course, from presenting a culmination of a year’s study at Research day to celebrating with the good friends I’ve made during my time at Falmouth Marine School.”
David Stedman, Head of Falmouth Marine School said: “What a fantastic end to a great year. The event was well organised and both students and staff made a big effort to ensure an enjoyable evening was had by all. We wish the students all the best in their future endeavours and sincerely hope they keep in touch.”
All undergraduate courses at Falmouth Marine School are awarded by Plymouth University.
