30th Annual Hairdressing Competition

Cornwall College St Austell hosted its 30th annual Hairdressing competition in the fantastic surroundings of The Keay Theatre this week. Hairdressing students participated in various competitions staged throughout the day.

Competitors were supported by fellow students, College lecturers, family, friends and leading hairdressing industry representatives.

John Latham, Principal of Cornwall College said: "The annual Hairdressing competition allows our students to show off their creativity and artistic flair; it gives them the opportunity to demonstrate the level of their skill."

Michelle Ralphs, from St Austell, owner of Phase Two hair and beauty salon in Holmbush said: "I came to the event last year and it was lovely. I'm here to support my girls again this year. Sarah Crowe, and Stephanie Arnold, I hope they do well."

Margaret Butfield Hairdressing Curriculum Manager said: "This year the competition has grown; we have introduced a second Level 3 event to the competition's programme. Last year we introduced the Extreme Makeover events which proved to be very popular. This competition is always evolving."

The busy day culminated with the announcement of the competition winners by Debbie Wilshire, Deputy CEO of Cornwall College, she said: "The standards have been incredibly high this year, the judges have remarked that there have been some very high scores. I'd like to express thanks to the models, judges, sponsors and employers who all make this competition possible and offer aspecial than you to the competition entrants for their hard work today, which I hope have given them great inspiration for their futures."
