The green light is on for Cornwall College's St Austell campus
Cornwall College Business's (CCB) Renewable Energy Centre witnessed its first Solar PV course to be delivered at the St Austell campus last week.
The Installation of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems course is a five day programme designed for qualified electricians who wish to gain new skills by learning how to install renewable energy technologies.
The course is normally delivered at the Camborne campus, however CCB have invested in the resource to bring the technologies to St Austell so that customers have more flexibility over the location of the training. CCB is also looking to do the same in Saltash.
Peter Mercy, Head of Technology at Cornwall College St Austell, said: "We are delighted to get the course up and running in St Austell. Despite the recent cuts in the feed in tariffs, tradespeople are still keen to up skill and learn how to install renewable technology. This is great news for the college, and businesses, as subject to the funding criteria we are able to offer up to £500 off this training up until the end of May 2012."
As well as offering the Installation of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems course, CCB's Renewable Energy Centre has a suite of other courses in renewable technology such as "Solar Thermal", "Ground Source Heat Pumps" and "Rainwater Harvesting. These facilities were showcased at the second "Get Switched On" event last week that was also held in St Austell.
Des Prouse from S.J.Prouse Design attended the event in order to find out how his business could benefit from the state of the art Cornwall College facilities and the training in renewable technologies that is available. He said: "I was particularly impressed by the clear dedication of all people involved and the desire to understand business requirements and to tailor courses accordingly."
