A plumbing apprentice from Cornwall College Camborne has achieved first place in the regional final of the Heating, Installation and Plumbing (HIPEX) National Plumbing Apprentice of the Year Awards 2012, which took place at Bridgwater College in Somerset recently.
George Caddick, 18 from Newlyn, Penzance, is currently completing a Plumbing Installation NVQ Level 2 apprenticeship with Blue Bay Plumbing and Heating, also based in Newlyn. He demonstrated his abilities whilst competing against other plumbers from across the South West, and will now go on to compete in the national live finals which will be held over two days at Newbury Racecourse later this year.
"I really enjoyed taking part in the whole competition and I was pleased with the standard of my work," said George. "It was a really good experience and I'm looking forward to competing in the national finals."
All of the judges commented that George's work had been outstanding throughout the competition, and George was presented with a prize of a Milwaukee drill set in addition to keeping the tools provided by the competition's organisers. The College also received a donation of three Trinton shower units for use in the training facilities at the Camborne campus.
George's win also marks the third year running that an apprentice from Cornwall College Camborne has won the regional final of this competition and progressed to compete at national level.

It's a real testament to the quality of our teaching at the College and I wish George every success in the next stage of this competition."
