Students on the BA (Hons) Business Enterprise degree course at Cornwall College have had reason to celebrate this week. The results of all the hard work and effort have been issued by awarding body Plymouth University and the cohort has produced four first-class degrees.

The results across the board were very good with students gaining a range of 1st class to lower 2nd class degrees. This is a testament to the level of dedication the students have put into their studies this year, as well as running households, working and bringing up children.

One of the deserving first-class students is Rachel Craze, from Newquay. Rachel co-owns a successful business called ‘Newquay Fruit Sales' and has juggled her studies with the running of the established business. Rachel said: "This course has allowed me to continue working and apply the knowledge I've learned into a real-life situation. It has also given me more confidence in the way I run my business, which was one of the reasons I chose to study in the first place - to gain the skills and knowledge to run my own business but to also act as a consultant to other businesses."

The Business Enterprise degree at Cornwall College allows students the chance to fit their studies into their own life and not have to move away to study a comprehensive, recognisable degree. The degree programme is set and awarded by Plymouth University which means students get the accreditation they desire from a higher education establishment but are still able to stay in the county and fit the degree course in around their everyday life.

Fellow first class degree student James Moore, from Camborne, said: "It is really good to study a degree locally and has been beneficial to me as I have been able to work and study at the same time, and let's not forget the fees are cheaper than other universities in the UK. That to me is a definite selling point." James continues: "You're not just a number at Cornwall College, the tutors know each student in their class by name and that builds strong relationships that really does help students - if any student has a problem or something isn't quite clear the tutor will go over it again and help you out until you ‘get it'."

While studying degrees at Cornwall College students can make the most of local business partnerships to gain experience and extra industry knowledge which is right on their own doorstep. Rachel added: "The relationship you build up with local business whilst studying is fantastic, much better an experience than you would receive at other universities. Everybody in Cornwall knows a man who knows a man, and it's that kind of word-of-mouth that allows students to carry out projects with companies or work experience placements and see first-hand what it's really like to be in that position of business management and at that level of decision making."

The Business Enterprise degree at Cornwall College is growing in popularity as the need for well qualified and experienced business-focused graduates increase, both in Cornwall and further up country. The business course is condensed into two full days of classes which leaves students free to carry on with their life for the rest of the week. This is the perfect scenario for some of the students who have studied the BA (Hons) Business Enterprise course as they have been able to drop their kids off at school and be finished in time to collect them at the end of the day - a lot of other higher education establishments do no't allow this lifestyle and that puts some potential students off.

James adds: "This is a very ‘user-friendly' course that really does cater to everyone's needs and fits in with everyone's lives. I can't recommend degrees at Cornwall College highly enough."

Dr Bryan Mills, Curriculum Area Manager for HE Business & IT at Cornwall College, said: "I never cease to be amazed by our students' hard work and well-deserved success.  We have run this university degree for over 15 years and the students always excel, and that has been proven again this year!"

Dave Linnell, Principal of Cornwall College, said: "This is an excellent achievement for the BA (Hons) Business Enterprise students. They have worked really hard and put the time and effort into their studies and it has paid off. Well done to all."
