Cultural Music Extravaganza
Cornwall College St Austell played host to music students from Kardinal-Von-Galen School in Dusseldorf this week as part of an inspiring cultural exchange.
The exciting exchange brought the College’s BTEC Music course students and Roseland Community College students together with the visiting students to enjoy an outstanding week-long programme of music and performance.
The exchange is in its fourth year and provides the students with excellent opportunities to develop their musical skills and experience various cultures. Performing Arts Course Manager, Cecil Du Valle, explained: ‘’It’s fantastic for the students to work with visiting conductors and experience different ways of playing and reading music, it really strengthens their desire for learning.’’
A combination of ages (14-17), cultures and abilities from the members of the College Big Band, College Soul Band, KBG Big Band and Roseland Community College Students really made the experience worthwhile for everybody involved.
The week was a mix of seeing the sites and playing music, from trips to Trerice Manor, Truro and The Royal Cornwall Museum to performing concerts at the Eden Project, Roseland Community College and finally at the College’s Keay Theatre.
Cecil added: ‘’It’s been an absolutely fantastic week with all the students, staff and visitors having a wonderful time performing or watching the concerts.’’
Dave Linnell OBE, Principal of Cornwall College, said: “At Cornwall College, we make every effort to ensure our students benefit from educational trips and exchange programmes and this exchange has given our students firsthand experience of another culture with the chance to develop their own skills.”
Cornwall College students visit Germany in February half term for the second part of the exchange which I am sure will be an equally fantastic experience.
