Who is this course for?
This is a course for anyone who has an interest in developing a career in renewable energy planning or practice in a world that is rapidly having to find alternatives to fossil fuels.
What are the entry requirements?
To study this course you will need to have 120 tariff points, with four supporting passes at GCSE grade C or above; or an Access to Higher Education course; or successful completion of the Extended Science Programme; or an equivalent qualification to any of the above issued by the Scottish, Irish or other recognised awarding bodies. Students with vocational Level 3 courses such as NVQ 3 in relevant subject areas are encouraged to apply. For mature applicants, significant relevant work experience will be considered on an individual basis.
What will I be doing on the course?
You will cover a wide range of topics which will equip you with the skills and knowledge required for a career in Renewable Technologies. The course includes the following modules in the first year: Biomass as a Source of Energy, Conventional Energy, Planning for Energy, Environmental Economics, Thermodynamics, Economics of Sustainability, Forces and Motion and Fields and Flow. The second year modules include; Energy from Wind and Waves, Solar Energy, Sustainable Construction, Project Management, Case Studies, Individual Research Project. This is a 2-year full time course but you can also study individual modules or as a part-time route covered over a longer period.
How do I study the course?
Students are based at the Camborne campus, benefiting from new facilities and buildings, including a student bar, artificial turf pitch and new lecture theatres, making the learning experience one of the best in the county. You will be involved in a considerable amount of practical work both on and off campus. Renewable Energy is the UK's fastest growing business sector and Cornwall has been at the fore-front of these developments. You will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of a variety of Renewable Technologies such as Biomass, Wind, Wave and Solar Energy using commercial and non-commercial installations. You will benefit from a regular and extensive programme of site visits.

What can I do after this course?
You may seek employment in a range of public, private and voluntary sector organisations for which Renewable Technologies are a key issue. If you complete the course successfully you will have the option of continuing into the final year of a full BSc Hons Degree in Renewable Energy at the Combined University of Cornwall in nearby Penryn.
