Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone with an interest in climate change and wishing to develop a career in sectors requiring skills in carbon or energy management.

Entry requirements

To study this course you will need to have 120 tariff points, with four supporting passes at GCSE grade C or above; or an Access to Higher Education course; or successful completion of the Extended Science Programme; or an equivalent qualification to any of the above issued by the Scottish, Irish or other recognised awarding bodies. Students with vocational Level 3 courses such as NVQ 3 in relevant subject areas are encouraged to apply. For mature applicants, significant relevant work experience will be considered on an individual basis.

What will I be doing on the course?

You will cover a wide range of topics relevant to carbon management, as well as being trained in the use of practical management tools. The course includes the following modules:

Year 1: Sustaianble Energy Future; Quantitative Methods; Energy and Climate Change Policy; Bioenergy; Low Carbon Energy generation; Carbon Footprints and Carbon accounting.

Year 2:  Sustainable Transport Policy; Sustainable Energy Management; Managing Change; Supply Chains; Research Design and Methods; Individual Research Project.

This is a 2-year full time course but you can also study individual modules or as a part-time route, over a longer period. Students are based at the Camborne campus, benefiting from new facilities and buildings, including an artificial turf pitch and new lecture theatres, making the learning experience one of the best in the county.

What can I do after the course?

Carbon management is a rapidly growing sector. After this course you may seek employment in a range of public, private and voluntary sector organisations for which carbon management is of a growing concern. While many large scale organisations are now required by law to manage their emissions, many smaller organisations are also responding to social and economic pressures to manage their carbon footprints. As such,  carbon management is becoming relevant to those involved in financial, procurement and waste management decisions as well as those who manage energy budgets. If you complete the course successfully you will also have the option to progress to Stage 3 of the BSc (Hons) Environmental Resource Management run by Cornwall College.
