Final year students on the foundation degree Complementary Health Therapies course at Cornwall College Camborne visited the Culm Valley Natural Health Practice in Cullompton recently to see how an alternative medicine centre works.

The Culm Valley Centre for Integrated Health which houses the Natural Health Practice is a complementary therapy practice that provides clients with a range of natural therapies in clean and comfortable rooms, ideal for effective treatment.

Jonathon Boxall, registered Osteopath and partner at the Culm Valley Health Practice showed the students around and said: "I very much enjoyed meeting the students from Cornwall College and explaining how integrated health is working here at Culm Valley. They were bright and attentive with clear enthusiasm for complementary therapy."

During the day-trip to the practice the students were able to make the connection from a module they have been studying at college, in which they researched the clinic, and be able to see it run effectively in person. The students had the opportunity to look around the centre and its tranquil grounds as well as find out about all the different therapies that are on offer at the clinic such as acupuncture, aromatherapy and hypnotherapy and how these treatments work in conjunction with the medical centre at Culm Valley.

One of the students was very pleased with the visit. Sophie Mullard, 21 from Redruth, said: "It was really interesting to experience the treatments on offer at this kind of practice. It has given me the knowledge to advise my clients on the further treatments that are available with other alternative/complementary therapies."

Dave Linell, Principal of Cornwall College, said: "When students have the chance to go on these visits and see what it takes for a real complementary therapy practice to work effectively, it gives them invaluable experience that they wouldn't necessarily get inside the classroom. This allows them to put theory into practice."
