Course Studied: Boat Design & Production Foundation Degree
In 2006 I was working as manager at a Vodafone store and I really wanted a change of career. I had a diploma in philosophy but had always loved boats and Cornwall. The Boat Design & Production FdSc was exactly what I was looking for. There is a lots of practical stuff and I've learnt a lot about boats! I've also had lots of opportunities to sail; we've even been on a sailing field trip.
I really like studying at Falmouth Marine School as there are a lot of other students studying university degrees so there is a really good group of us all studying different aspects of the marine industry. We all support each other and I've made some really good friends.
I've been involved in lots of college activities including being Vice Chair of the Cornwall College Student's Union for Falmouth. I also got to got to man the Falmouth Marine School stand at the Earls Court Boat Show as a student ambassador which was great fun.
Once I finish the course I'm thinking of looking for some work in the marine industry, hopefully in project management, surveying or brokerage before I come back to Falmouth Marine School fro more study.
