Right Level, Right Course

LEVEL
Entry Requirements

Progression
PRE-ENTRY & ENTRY LEVEL
None
Almost entirely for students with learning difficulties, programmes at this level are designed to prepare you for some independent living and the possibility of employment.
Progress on to a Level 1 Foundation programme.
LEVEL 1 Foundation
None
A general programme for adults wanting to build up skills in communications, numeracy and IT, helping to build your confidence to move on. Equivalent to GCSEs at grades D to G.
Progress on to a Level 2 Intermediate qualification.
LEVEL 2 Intermediate
None
Qualifications at this level include GCSEs*, BTEC First Diploma, City & Guilds and the NVQ 2 (Apprenticeship).*English and Maths at Grade C or above at GCSE are requirements for many jobs and courses.
Progress onto a Level 3 Advanced qualification and improved career prospects.
LEVEL 3 Advanced
Entry requirements vary. For most courses previous experience will be taken into account and an initial assessment will help start you at the right level to succeed.
Qualifications at this level include the Access to Higher Education certificate, A-levels, the BTEC Nationals (Cert/Award/Diploma), OCR certificate and the NVQ 3 (Advanced Apprenticeship).
Progress on to a foundation degree or a Bachelors (Hons) degree and improved career prospects.
LEVEL 4 Higher
Qualifications at Level 3 such as an Access to Higher Education Diploma, A-levels or BTEC National Diploma.
Foundation degrees, NVQ 4 or a Certificate in Higher Education.
Progress on to a BA (Hons) top-up year to convert your foundation degree into an Honours degree.
LEVEL 5 Higher
Level 3 qualification, Foundation degree
Bachelors degrees (BA Hons, BA (Hons) top-up year
Masters or other Postgraduate qualification
