Were you watching Ben Ainslie win his fourth Olympic sailing gold medal or Ed McKeever in the Canoe Sprint, 200m Men's Single Kayak, or Hannah Mills and Saskia Clarke in the Women's 470 class sailing?

How would you like to get on the water and try out the very sports that won so many medals for Team GB at the 2012 London Olympics?

To celebrate the great achievement of all the Great Britain athletes at this year’s Olympics in England, Falmouth Marine School is holding a very special event.

On Saturday 8th September 2012, at 10am to 12pm or 1.30pm to 3.30pm, the college’s specialist watersports tutors will be available to take participants out on the water to try sailing or windsurfing, absolutely free. Participants will learn the basics of the sport and get a feel for what the athletes really went through, as well as learn a little about what it takes to become a competitive athlete at the highest level.

“All our staff and students are very proud of the British achievements in London and would like to offer local people who may not have tried these exciting sports before to come along and have a go. The sessions will be run by students studying to become watersports instructors and overseen by our highly qualified staff to ensure the highest level of fun and safety for a really positive introduction to the sports.” Nikki Kendall, Curriculum Area Manager, Ocean Science.

To get out on the water participants need to be over 14 and bring a towel, shoes to wear in the water, a swimsuit, packed lunch and warm clothes.

If you would like to come along and take part or just watch the activities please call the college for more information and to register on 01326 310310.

David Stedman, Head of Falmouth Marine School commented: “This is a great opportunity to get involved in some watersports and Falmouth Marine School may even discover some future Olympians for Rio 2016.”
