Cornwall College St Austell is offering free taster courses to anyone who is interested in learning a new skill or more about a subject they have always been interested in.

Using the strap line “I’ve always wanted to be able to do...” Cornwall College is offering such a large variety of taster sessions that there should be something for everyone or at least something that is appealing to the curious learner.

The campus will be opening its doors on Saturday 26th May and Saturday 16th June to members of the public, offering a taster in a variety of areas and an insight into what the College has to offer.

Members of the public can book onto tasters including sessions in plumbing, carpentry, basic car maintenance, nail art, long hair styles, sports massage, reiki, chocolate making, artisan bread, website design, animation, clothes up-cycling and much more.

Tasters can lead on to an interesting hobby or new business eventually. Mum and Daughter partnership Liz and Ashleigh Hellier completed a cupcake taster earlier this year and have already started up their new business Cupcakes by Ash-Li. Liz commented: “We were looking for something new to get our teeth into and the cupcakes session sounded ideal and something we could do together. Since the taster we have enrolled on more courses related to baking and have started our new venture, we are overwhelmed by the demand for our cakes, it’s amazing what new skills can lead on to.”

Most of the tasters on the Saturdays will last for three hours and learners will be able to have a look around the campus and meet staff.

Dave Linnell, Principal of Cornwall College, said: "Offering tasters allows Cornwall College to highlight the vast range of subjects on offer.  Our free tasters aim to attract even more to take up a new hobby, gain more qualifications or retrain for a different career."
