Two Access to Higher Education (HE) students from Cornwall College Camborne were recognised recently at the Learning South West award ceremony in Weston Super-Mare. The award ceremony is in conjunction with NIACE and was sponsored by Open College Network South West Region (OCNSWR).

Allan Osborne from Camborne, is currently studying the Combined Studies Access to HE course and Melissa Pereira, from Falmouth, who is currently studying Health & Social Care Access to HE at Camborne, were put forward for the award by tutor, Anne Rowling.

Both students were nominated for the awards because of their commitment and attitude to further adult study. Although they were pipped to the post by another nominee, both Allan and Melissa were presented with nominee certificates by Cheryl Baker, of Bucks Fizz fame.

Anne Rowling, Programme Leader at Cornwall College Camborne, said: "It is a shame that Melissa and Allan didn't win but they truly deserved to be nominated. They have achieved so much on their courses and it just shows that education is for people of all ages - it's never too late to change your career!"

Dave Linnell, Principal of Cornwall College, said: "This is a wonderful achievement to even be nominated for the Institute's awards during Adult Learners' Week. Both students have worked really hard and I'm glad they have been recognised."
