Salon owners receive student treatment
Local beauty salon and spa owners were treated to some pampering last week, when they spent a day in the Tekhé Hair & Beauty Salon at Cornwall College Camborne receiving treatments and finding out about apprenticeship opportunities available.
After receiving a hot stone or full body massage from the beauty therapy students in the morning, the ladies then spent time in the salon with the students and tutors, finding out more about the courses offered and how they can work with the College to offer apprenticeship and work experience opportunities to students.
Tara May, from Top 2 Toe Day Spa in Newquay, said: "The treatment I had today was really relaxing and the student therapist was lovely." Lynn Wood, also from Top 2 Toe Day Spa, added: "They all look and behave so professionally too. I'm very impressed!"
Shane Edwards from Spiezia Organics said: "I thoroughly enjoyed my treatment. For someone so young, my therapist really impressed me and was very professional."
Sara Reddish, Beauty Therapy Course Manager and organiser of the event, said: "This event was all about how we can work with local salons and spas to offer realistic opportunities and commercial experience to our students, which will improve their employability skills in the long run. We also wanted to showcase the skills of the students we have studying with us, and I think we've achieved that because feedback from the ladies has been great."
Emma Clarke-Bennetts, 21 from Camborne and currently studying the Beauty Therapy NVQ Diploma Level 3, said: "I've really enjoyed today because it's been a great opportunity to carry out treatments and get feedback from someone who already works in the industry. I'm glad the ladies were so impressed!"
Dave Linnell, Principal of Cornwall College, said: "As a college, we work hard to build links with local businesses and industries, so events like this are key in maintaining those relationships. It's also a great opportunity for our students to show their talents and skills to local employers, highlighting the excellent standard of teaching we have at the College."
