Work experience is a 'sweet' treat for A-level student
A-LEVEL student Ebony Payne from Cornwall College St Austell enjoyed a 'sweet' time in York last month when she spent two weeks on work experience at Nestlé UK Ltd.
The 17-year-old from Par, who is currently studying A-levels in Biology, English Literature, Law and Sociology at the College, was based in the customer services department for her placement where she learnt how the company deals with all of its customer enquiries, from product suggestions and locations of certain items, to customer feedback and complaints.
“It was a really good experience at Nestlé,” said Ebony. “I was kept busy all of the time and got a real insight into how the customer services department operates.”
During her two weeks, Ebony was able to enjoy a factory tour where she got to see Kit Kats being made and packaged and was also able to try her hand at chocolate making.
She also got to spend time with the sales and marketing team where she went out on the road to look at how retailers display and sell Nestlé products on their shelves.
Russell Lawrance, Head of A-levels at Cornwall College, explained: “The College introduced a work placement scheme last year to enhance our A-level provision. With the battle for university places becoming increasingly competitive, having practical experience in an area related to a chosen degree course will make students stand out to admissions teams more than those with little or no experience in the field.
“It certainly sounded like Ebony had a great experience and hopefully she will be able to use the skills and knowledge she learnt on her placement in her studies.”
