New babysitting course at college
YOUNGSTERS looking to earn some extra cash can kick start their plans by enrolling onto the new Babysitting CACHE Award at Cornwall College St Austell next month (August).
The six day course, which is running from 21st to 23rd August and 28th to 30th August, will give learners a nationally recognised qualification that will give them some useful skills and information to help them become better babysitters.
Students will learn how to bath and feed babies, consider accident prevention and fire safety when babysitting and get hints and tips for craft activities with young children.
Tanisha Hooker, 15, from St Austell, explained why she will be doing the course in August. She said: “At 15 there are not many jobs available so I’m hoping to do this course to give me a qualification that will enable me to get a job babysitting.
“Also learning craft activities and health and safety will be really useful when looking after children.”
The course is currently free for students aged 16 to 18 and £40 for those aged 14 and 15.
Upon completion, those students aged 16 and over will be able to progress onto a full-time childcare course at the College in September.
“It’s great that we’re able to provide a new qualification; taught by industry experts, that will help students to seek employment,” said Dave Linnell, Principal of Cornwall College.
