Red Army, a quartet of Redruth School students won first prize that included a £100 voucher to spend at Modern Music in Truro, a 1-day session in the College's own recording studio and an album cover produced by graphic design students. There was also a prize for best solo artist, this was won by the outstanding Rebekah Whitaker another Redruth School student, who also took home a £100 voucher for Modern Music. `Shifty and Deafo' a rap duo who are students at the College received a Hitchcock Rules CD for being the most `alternative' act, while the best vocalist went to `Harry Pitts' from `My Elvis Blackout', also a Cornwall College student band.
Other activities on the day included several bouncy castles, a bucking bronco ride, as well as a mobile skate park where media students filmed skaters and showed them how to edit their films to take home. The automotive department had a classic and vintage car show, there were football skills workshops, face painting, cookery demos, karaoke and the day also saw the launch of a week long Arts & Media exhibition of students' work ranging from ceramics to fine art, photography to graphic design, textiles and even a fashion show!
One of the event co-ordinators, Sarah Plant commented, `This has been a fantastic day for everyone involved, all the staff working today have given up their free time to make this something special. We hope everyone who has come along today has had a great time and have seen how much more is on offer at College. Next year it's going to be even bigger!'
