In an effort to promote awareness of their role to potential recruits, the Ministry of Defence Police (MDP) welcomed 16 National Diploma Public Services students from Duchy College.

The visit, Co-ordinated by Inspector Bob Chaplin (MDP Devonport), commenced with a 'first', for any students and that was a brief from the Rope Access Team (RAT's) Sergeant on their equipment and role followed by a demonstration by the team, descending from high up on a Bull point alignment tower. This then led onto a through tour of the Police Dog and Marine section, a brief on the use of firearms and cultural visit to the Hangman's Cell.

"The visit gave a fantastic insight to the operation and variety of roles undertaken by the MDP," said Nick Sherriff a college tutor. "It really stimulated a great deal of interest and debate. Almost all of the students assumed the role of the MDP, is just to check ID passes in and out of the Dockyard. We could not have been more wrong."
