CORNWALL College St Austell will be throwing open its doors on Saturday 30th June to give prospective students of all ages the chance to explore the College and its resources and get the advice they need for their future career.

Those who attend the event, which runs from 10am until 12pm, will be able to get a feel for student life when they meet staff and students, attend a campus tour and gather information from tutors on the range of courses and specialist facilities available at the College.

The College is communicating the message ‘Upgrade, turn your talent into a career’ with visitors being offered financial advice, information on transport, learning support and student union, as well as learning about various career options.

“I chose to study at Cornwall College St Austell because of the shorter travelling time, which left more time for academic and social opportunities,” said A-level student Adam Marks. “Coupled with the high success rates in my chosen subjects, it was not a difficult decision.”

Cornwall College St Austell offers both full and part-time courses in a range of subjects from A-levels in Law, Photography and Physics to Diplomas in Dance, Sport and IT and Apprenticeships in Hairdressing, Plumbing and Catering. Students who are also interested in studying degree level qualifications can find out about the new Higher Education courses being delivered in September 2012 at the St Austell campus. With fees set at £6000 a year, the College is offering degrees and higher national diplomas at a rate far more affordable than many of the region’s institutions.

Dave Linnell, Principal of Cornwall College, said: “Our excellent range of courses gives students the best chance of going on to further study or to get their foot on the career ladder. Our tutors are specialists in their fields and enjoy passing on their knowledge to new learners.

“Cornwall College is in the top five for success rates in the south west and we are also the most successful provider of apprenticeships in the region. So whether it’s a full-time course you’re looking to study after your GCSEs or you’re an adult looking to return to education to improve your career prospects, we have something for everyone at Cornwall College.”

Jenna Trudgeon from St Austell, who is currently studying Dance BTEC Extended Diploma, explained: “I look forward to coming to college every day. The tutors are inspirational and incredibly challenging and supportive. When I leave college I hope to get into a dance school and continue to become a professional dancer.

Open Events are being held on all Cornwall College sites on Saturday 30th June in Camborne, Newquay, Saltash and St Austell as well as at Falmouth Marine School.
