Top chef delivers master class to students
Students at Cornwall College Camborne were treated to a master class from top chef Nathan Outlaw last week, as part of their hospitality and catering studies.
All students currently studying level three courses with the Catering & Hospitality faculty at the College were invited to attend the master class where they watched Nathan at work and got the opportunity to ask him questions and taste the dishes he created.
Using fresh local produce, Nathan demonstrated a number of recipes for the students, some of which are on the menu at his two Michelin-starred restaurant in Padstow, passing on his wealth of tips, techniques and expertise in the process.
Sarah Paige, from Falmouth and currently studying the Professional Cookery NVQ Diploma Level 3, said: "It was amazing and really informative. For me, the best part was watching Nathan work and then tasting the dishes afterwards."
Fellow student Chris Bailey, 19 from Newquay and also currently studying the Professional Cookery Diploma, said: "Today has been brilliant and I've learnt so much. It was great to see a top chef cook amazing food and it's really inspired me to work hard and aim to work in some good establishments."
After delivering his master class and talking to the students, Nathan said: "Today has been great fun and it was great to see so many students come along. They asked some really good questions too, which shows they were interested. Cornwall College does an excellent job of re-creating the commercial environment for students and inspires them to become better. If just one of them goes on to recreate one of the recipes I showed them today, then we've achieved something."
Dave Linnell, Principal of Cornwall College, said: "We are delighted to work with Nathan and hold an event like this, so I would like to thank him for giving up his time to offer our students such a fantastic opportunity. I'm glad the event was a success and that our students found it both an inspiring and valuable experience."
