Firewalkers wanted for College challenge
Staff and students from Cornwall College Saltash are appealing for wannabe daredevils to take part in a sponsored firewalk on Wednesday 28th March at the College's Church Road campus in aid of the Cornwall Blind Association.
So far the College has more than 25 willing volunteers excitedly waiting for the event, including a team from the local Waitrose, however there are still places available for any members of the public aged over 16 who want to get involved.
Participants will have a two hour training session to prepare themselves for the walk which is due to start at 8.30pm.
The fire lane itself will be between 15 and 20ft long and 2 to 3ft wide and will reach temperatures over 1236° Fahrenheit during the burn down and over 800° Fahrenheit when it comes to the time for the walk.
The event is run by Time4Change who have been arranging firewalking events for over three decades.
Participants have to raise over £120 each in order to take part in the walk.
The campus will be open to members of the public who wish to come along and watch friends, family and colleagues take part. They will be able to enjoy an outdoor barbecue and watch the walk with a refreshing tea, coffee or hot chocolate.
Those who wish to take part need to contact Becki Lewis at the College on 01752 850250 or email becki.lewis@cornwall.ac.uk by Monday 19th March.
Dave Linnell, Principal of Cornwall College said: “It’s great that we can host exciting charity events like this for the community at our campus in Saltash. Good luck to all those involved and let’s hope we can raise a fantastic amount for the Cornwall Blind Association.”
