On Friday 25th September students from Cornwall College Camborne and St. Austell volunteered their time to support Cornwall's most celebrated chefs at an evening alfresco dinner on Lemon Quay, Truro.

The evening dinner was a new addition to the Cornwall Food and Drink Festival that showcases the best culinary talent and local produce. Students were also involved in assisting exhibitors in activities that took place over the three days.

The Chefs Theatre was transformed into a restaurant for one evening only.  Cornwall's Michelin starred chefs cooked up a five course meal using the finest produce Cornwall has to offer.

The 'magnificent seven'; Chris Eden (Head Chef, Driftwood Hotel), Neil Haydock (Executive Chef, Fifteen Cornwall, Watergate Bay), Nathan Outlaw (Michelin -starred Head Chef at Marina Villa Hotel and St. Enodoc Hotel), Paul Ripley (Head Chef at St. Kew Inn), David Sharland (Executive Chef at Seafood Restaurant, Padstow), Nigel Tabb (Head Chef/ Owner of Tabb's Restaurant, Truro) and Kevin Viner (Chef/Owner Viner's Bar and Restaurant, Summercourt); enlisted the help of the students to serve the prepared dishes to 80 diners.

Students from the Food and Drink Service NVQ1 and Chefs Diploma VRQ1, took the opportunity to gain invaluable experience from this event and impress potential employers.  They served the dishes to Dez Turland, who is the group development Chef for Brent Hotels group.  Brent Hotel has recruited students from Cornwall College previously, as has Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant and Sanjay Kumar of Greenbank Hotel, Falmouth.

Dave Linnell OBE, Principal of Cornwall College, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience working for professional and highly acclaimed local chefs.  It will give them a taste of the standard required to cater for events and dignitaries from the industry and inspire them to succeed and perfect their craft.  I am pleased to see students and lecturers from Camborne and St. Austell calibrating their efforts to offer support at a prestigious local event.''
