Jubilee tree planting
As part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, Cornwall College Newquay planted over 200 saplings on its grounds, which included a Royal Oak from the Royal estate.
The trees were planted by members of the Cornwall College Newquay Green Team, local cubs and explorers from 5th Newquay Scout Group, pupils from Bishop’s School and Newquay’s Mayor Andy Hannan. Beavers from 5th Newquay Scout Group also decorated the planters in bright colours.
Paula Glasbey, Cornwall College Newquay’s Site Manager said: “The trees have been donated by the Woodland Trust and we are really pleased to have been given a Royal Oak to plant on the grounds. The saplings will be planted in the top field of the College grounds and will eventually provide a home for lots of wildlife, which our students will then be able to study as part of their course.”
Saplings planted include: cherry, crab apple, dog rose, elder, hazel and blackthorn trees.
