COLLEGE TO OFFER NATIONALLY RECOGNISED POLICE TRAINING CERTIFICATE
Duchy College Stoke Climsland is the first in Cornwall to offer the Police Knowledge Certificate; the new nationally recognised qualification for entry into the Police Service as part of their Police Studies Foundation Degree from September 2012.
In collaboration with Plymouth University, the College has developed its Foundation Degree in Police Studies programme to incorporate the new Police Pre-Join Award module built around the all new industry-recognised ‘Police Knowledge Certificate'.
The Certificate is now a pre-requisite to enter any police force in the UK, evidencing that the student meets the knowledge requirements of initial police learning. The certificate is completed through the Police Pre-Join Award module, and is undertaken through various styles of coursework and assessment. This certificate will provide the student with the knowledge element of police training; this will be followed on successful application to a police force by the student continuing their studies to gain the skills element of the student police officer qualification.
Police Studies Programme Manager, Paul Coe said: "During this course students will gain the underpinning knowledge and understanding of policing, police law, and the contemporary social context in which policing operates in England and Wales."

We are the only college in Cornwall to offer the certificate and are extremely pleased that we can provide students with the tools they require to secure a job in the police force. This addition to the already successful police studies course provides students with the opportunity to gain a well-respected qualification as part of a degree programme."
