College offers taste of university courses
Cornwall College is offering a taste of university on Friday 15th June as potential students get the chance to explore the many courses on offer including a host of new subjects introduced especially for September 2012.
The bookable day will run at the College’s campuses in Camborne, Newquay, St Austell and Saltash for those soon to finish exams or for people wanting to return to education to boost career prospects.
Responding to the demand for university places, the College has added new degrees and higher national diplomas/certificates (HND/Cs) to its high quality offering, continuing a tradition of offering university-level education over the past 30 years. Higher education (HE) courses at Cornwall College will cost £6000 per year; considerably lower than many of the region’s establishments.
Dave Linnell, Principal of Cornwall College, said: “We’ve made a conscious decision to set our fees at £6000 per year. We are confident we can provide the highest quality courses at this rate giving students the chance to gain a higher education qualification that will give them the very best opportunities to start their careers, or for those already in work, improve their skills.”
Running from 10.30am to 4pm, potential students will begin their day with an overview of Cornwall College from staff and current students before touring the campus. They will then have the opportunity to explore key questions including accommodation, transport, finance and student support including the range of bursaries and scholarships available, and find out about the College’s Students’ Union over a buffet lunch. The afternoon will explore the student experience and student life before breaking into subject areas for an in depth look at what students can expect from their chosen courses.
Courses are available in a wide range of areas including Animal Science; Business & IT; Creative Arts & Media; Health, Teaching & Social Sciences; Hospitality & Tourism; Marine Studies; Science, Engineering & Technology; and Sports & Public Services.
Dave Linnell added: “Each year hundreds of students come to Cornwall College keen to benefit from our high quality university education. We want to give as many people as possible the chance to experience what we have to offer during this taster day. They will go away better prepared for their next step with the knowledge that we will do everything possible to make studying at Cornwall College the best experience they could have.”
