Students complete early to work in Greece
Marine engineering and watersports students from Falmouth Marine School have successfully completed their courses early to start work in Greece.
Peter Greenslade and Sam Powell, who completed the Light Marine Engineering level 3 course before the Easter break have flown out to Greece this week to start their new jobs as Marine Engineers, Sam has gained employment with Neilson and Peter is joining Sunsail.
Peter Greenslade, 28, who relocated from London to study at Falmouth Marine School, said: "I moved to Falmouth to study Yacht fit out and composites then I progressed onto the Light marine engineering course, I believe having both boatbuilding and marine engineering skills has enabled me secure this job. The facilities at the college are fantastic and the fact that we can use the workshops outside of our scheduled lessons and that the tutors are so supportive has helped me to complete my course three months early and start my job with Sunsail."
Watersports national diploma level 3 students have also secured early employment in Greece as watersports instructors. Jacob Worthington, 20, and Sam Fraser, 19, will join Neilson, and Alistair Blocksidge,17, will join the Mark Warner team.
All students secured their new posts at Falmouth Marine School's annual industry day. Supported and held at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, the event is part of the college’s ongoing commitment to bring an increasing number of employers in to help design relevant courses as well as to talk to students about the sector. The day is designed to give students an insight into the range of career areas, as well as specific jobs available in the Marine Industry.
Alistair Blocksidge relocated from Norfolk for his course, he said: "I was offered three jobs at the Industry day and am extremely grateful to Falmouth Marine School, not only for excellent tuition but also in aiding in finding employment. I have always wanted to work for Mark Warner so this is a dream come true."
David Stedman, Head of Falmouth Marine School, said “We are delighted that the industry day has yet again been successful in aiding our students to secure employment in the industry, we wish them all the very best."
