VISITORS to St Austell will have the opportunity of viewing a contemporary art gallery in the town centre's White River Place this month (23 June – 28 June) housing an extensive range of artistic pieces by Art and Design students from Cornwall College St Austell.

For one week only the group of 50 young artists, designers and photographers will be using the innovative, temporary art space; a-gallery, to showcase their creative talents, which will encompass an array of disciplines including painting, photography, printmaking, graphics, illustration, textiles, ceramics, sculpture and glass.

Members of the public are invited to drop in to the free exhibition during the week at any time between 10am – 4pm, apart from Sunday 24 June, or pop along to the opening event on Friday 22 June from 6pm – 8pm and see the fantastic efforts for themselves.

“This annual exhibition is very important to the students as it gives them an opportunity to demonstrate their creative abilities,” said Zona Maunder, Curriculum Area Manager for Creative Arts at St Austell. “This year White Rive Place has kindly given us some of their space for free in the town centre, for which we are very grateful, so that more people can view the phenomenally high standard of work by these future artists in the making!”

The thought provoking pieces and installations on display have all been produced by students studying A-level, vocational and part-courses in a wide range of disciplines, including Film, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Media, Photography and Textiles.

Dave Linnell, Principal of Cornwall College, said: “We’re very proud to be able to show off our student’s hard work and I hope that lots of people will visit the exhibition and be amazed at the standard of work. At Cornwall College we have a history of artistic excellence and this event always proves to be very popular.”
