The first female student on the FdSc Tournament Golf course at Tournament Golf College, which is part of Duchy College, has won her first major competition.

Elizabeth (Liz) Haycock, who is close to completing her first year of the FdSc Tournament Golf course (run in conjunction with ProJAm and the University of Plymouth) played a gruelling two days of golf, with 36 holes played each day, to win the title of Warwickshire County Champion 2010.

Liz has been playing golf for the last five years.  In that time she has gained a one handicap, representing Warwickshire Ladies First Team at county level, and holds three course records.

Liz thinks being the only female on the course has helped her improve as a player.  She said: "I think it has been helpful playing against lads all the time as they don't want to be beaten by a girl.  I believe the course has improved my game and future development which I couldn't have done alone."

Dave Linnell OBE, Principal of Cornwall College of which Duchy College is part, said: "I am very pleased to hear about Liz's achievement. I wish her all the best for the future."
